A forest is full of life, it can be heard through its cacophony. Frogs, insects, birds, they all contribute to the beautiful music of nature that gently flows from the places on the Earth which have yet to be touched by the hand of man. There’re lives in these forests people can’t even begin to fathom, from the ants living inside an immense nest within a tree, to the beaver which has made an abode by digging a tunnel from the bottom of a river. Here the Earth is as it was one hundred thousand years ago, it is entirely unchanged, these awe inspiring locations give us a window into the ancient past, a time when there was absolute freedom, there was no worry of war, hate, race, religion, sexuality, economics or anything that humanity bothers itself with today. We cannot help but write down or recreate the beautiful world that surrounds us, it’s our vain hope to create something which embodies only a fraction of the sheer perfection that emanates from the natural world. To see this place is to see the universe pure and untempered.
Here's an extra post for today. I'm currently in a Creative Writing lecture and five minutes of the sound of a rainforest (or something like that) was played and we were told to write about what we hear. It's not that impressive, but here's what I wrote:

_ Today I’m going to post another piece of festive writing written by my eleven year old self in 2004. This is a Christmassy short story (again, totally unedited) that I wrote just a few days before the previously posted 'The History of Xmas Trees'. It’s called 'A Series of Unfortunate Events at Christmas in Fox City':
On Christmas Eve Father Christmas’s elves where on strike because they work all day of the year with no pay or food so no toys, DVDs, videos, computer games or food so Father Christmas had to get a whole town to make the presents “I know I’ll get Fox City to do it for me cus if they don’t they’ll get no presents.” He said. So he got into his sleigh and flew to Fox City. “Oh it’s Father Christmas he’s come early.” Said Fox 2 “Attention Fox Cityans you are all on the naughty list unless you make all the presents, you see my elves are on strike so even if you don’t do it and your name isn’t on the bad list you’ll get no presents.” Said Farther Christmas, so the whole town went off with him. You know how on TV you see Farther Christmas’s Elves as really happy little people making presents well maybe it’s true but he treated Fox City like slaves “Ow stop whipping me. I’ll get my lawyer on you.” Said Bobby. They were sent back late and because of that Farther Christmas was late so when he got to Fox City he just lobbed down the presents, Professor Nerb’s present (which was a Tiny Monster which grew giant when heated) went down a chimney and grew and started to destroy the town Dr. Z’s present was a dooms day missile also went down a chimney then went flying into the air then came down and blew up Fox City. Random Encounters is a writing game that I very recently thought up (and am excited to play soon) and would like to teach to other people. This game basically only requires you to have the equipment needed to write and for you to be familiar with the writing of the other person who is playing with you. By being 'familiar' I mean you just really need to know information about the other writer's settings/characters, something which, I hope, won't be too uncommon. The rest is easy, basically, each person just thinks of one character created by the other person, then when you've each thought of one you tell each other and take it in turns to write a very short story (1,000 words at the most to keep it fun) in which the two characters you've each thought of meet each other. This game will be especially fun if the two of you write in drastically different genres/styles, it'll mean that all kind of fun and outlandish stories will have to be thought up in order for the characters to meet. Plus, it will give you some fun pieces of writing to read back again in the future.
There is a, less fun, version of the game you can play if you know another writer but are not wholly familiar with their work, or if each of you are fanfiction writers. Basically you do it exactly the same, except that you think of any fictional character that your partner will know about and see what you get! I hope you like my idea! As you, my readers, probably know, I update this blog with a new entry every single day and have done for about the last four months. I do actually enjoy writing every day and I'm glad that this blog ensures that I do.
However, by forcing myself to write a new entry every single day it means that the majority of my entries are rather bad or mediocre at best, with only the rare one being noteworthy. Also, you may not know, but I also keep a journal and write short stories as well, but writing a new entry in this blog every day means that I have neglected doing them somewhat (especially my journal). As such, I'm considering updating the blog three or four times a week, rather than every day. This will hopefully mean that the quality of entries will increase and that I will have more time to spend on my other writing projects. I'll still continue to write new entries every day for the rest of the month, but will probably reduce it to three a week from September 1st onward. If a lot of people will be unhappy about this, I'll continue to do it every day, but I'm sure nobody will mind the reduction, it'll mean no more terrible entries after all! |
