Interrupting Cow by Elliott Egan

(This week on my blog I am posting an entry every day, and each entry will be written by somebody other than me. Friday is the day that a new Finger Puppet Show is posted and so the script for today's strip was written by my old friend Elliott Egan. It doesn't tie in with the current Ghost storyline, so consider it as taking place just before.)

Adam, we get it with the moo puns. Stop milking it.

This was photographed at Savernake Forest. I'm going to use this entry to explain the issue of Colin's language abilities which I'm sure may seem inconsistent at times. Sometimes he appears not to be able to talk at all and to be just a mindless cow (like here) and other times he seems to talk just fine (like here). Well, the truth is, Colin can speak Cow, but he can't speak English. So, times like this all everybody hears is a cow mooing over and over again with no words, I've just taken to liberty of translating it for you to make it more enjoyable. As such, there is no inconsistency! Every time Colin 'talks' he is either alone or talking to another cow, he cannot talk to humans (he'd be able to speak to Rainbow Man, though). There is an exception to this (here and here) and the answer to that is that on some unseen adventure, the pirates were granted the ability to talk to animals. So, there you have it, the issue is solved! Not that anybody cares, I'm sure, but I do like to have internal consistency in my work, so I made this explanation more for myself, than anybody else!

Since jokesters answered the question of "how do you know if there's an elephant in your fridge?" (footprints in the butter) long ago, I tried to answer another of life's big question "How do you know if there's a cow in your fridge?" the answer, of course, being that they get stuck in peanut butter pots.
This is the first appearance of David Tubb in a strip in about five months!

And with that, we have the first appearance of Tolin the Cow! Actually a cow shaped torch. Tolin, just like Cooklin, was a gift from my friend Naomi Brennan, this time a birthday present. I'm not sure if I'll use either of them again, but, when I get new cows, I just want to make strips about them! This also continues Colin's desire for all cows to say nothing but 'moo'.

Hat Club

But, of course, it won't becaue Colin is just a mindless cow who just happens to wear a hat and who just happens to have wandered into the Funny Hat Club.  Also, if the angling of Jeb looks strange, he is supposed to be sat on the edge of the seat; I hope that makes it clearer.

Jeb is the creation of both me and a friend of mine.

I hope that's not too small to read, these days I generally keep the strips at eight panels, but this is a reference to this older strip and so I kind of needed it to be this length. The pirate Colin is talking to is Long Jon Silver, he's the earliest fictional character I remember making, he appeared once before and I wrote a little about him then too.

This is a new thing I'm going to do: every time I visit a famous or well-known place, I'll photograph Colin there with a suitable pun! This photo was taken the last time I went to London to visit my lovely internet friend Mairi Mac Arthur, it was actually the same day that the anecdote of this strange blog entry happened.

A few weeks ago, my friend Naomi Brennan bought me a cow shaped cookie (actually, it was a gingerbread cow, rather than a cookie, but let's just use the American definition for this one entry) and I liked it so much that I decided to name him Cooklin and use him in a comic strip! I hope it's clear what's happening in panel 6: Cooklin starts talking, and then Colin takes a bite out of him. I'm actually quite proud of this strip; I consider it one of the funnier ones, I think it turned out quite similar to something which would happen in an Annoying Orange video. Though on the downside, this is another strip which was just photographed against a blank wall, this is something I haven't done in a while because I think they look a lot better when photographed at an actual place, but unfortunately it was late at night at the time and I didn't have time to find a location because, well, I wanted to eat Cooklin.

Revival

Thanks to Rainbow Man, Colin has been revived after Dorium's violent murdering of him. In real life, of course, Colin was accidentally broken, and now, with the help of David Tubb, he has been repaired, with John-Boy's hat being used to hide the worst of the remaining damage. Since it was John-Boy's hat, rather than any old hat, I decided I'd give him a second appearance in the Finger Puppet Show, despite last time saying it'd be a one off. This will almost certainly be his last appearance. I never really thought the hat suited John-Boy anyway and he was never seen wearing it on The Waltons (his brother Jason had one though). In fact, I'm going to use this strip to explain away the inconsistency of the John-Boy figure owning that hat, despite him never appearing to in any episodes: This strip takes place immediately prior to the first episode of The Waltons (The Foundling, rather than the pilot, The Homecoming, since the figure looks slightly more like John-Boy did in Season 1 than in the pilot) and so the hat was never seen, because Colin stole it before any of the episodes happen (again, not including the pilot, where I guess it was in the wardrobe!)... heh heh.  Although this does bring up the question of why Colin is suddenly in America in 1933 following his revival, and why he’s back home in the next strip, but let’s not take things too seriously :D Also, I guess I had better explain the joke, I've noticed that John-Boy has a slight tendency to quickly shout "What do you think you're doing?" when somebody does something bad to him, and I like to imagine a cow stealing his hat would prompt him to say that (though I guess he couldn't resist the chance to make a pun)!

EDIT: Sorry, it seems I posted the strip with quite a big error in, it is fixed now!
